Drivers jailed over deaths of mother and daughter in Leeds

Hardeep Bhachu, 29, was jailed for 12 years and Jasskamal Riyat, 37, for 16 years over a car race in Leeds that killed Justyna Hulboj, 27, and her four-year-old daughter, Lena. On 16 January 2023, the pair were walking to Lena’s nursery on Scott Hall Road when Bhachu’s Audi mounted the pavement and struck them. The court heard that Riyat had reached 89mph in a 40mph zone before Bhachu lost control. Bhachu admitted two counts of causing death by dangerous driving, while Riyat was convicted by a jury.
