Drone attacks by Colombian armed groups more than double in early 2026

Drone attacks by armed groups in Colombia surged 146 percent in the first five months of 2026 compared to the same period in 2025, resulting in 21 deaths and 145 injuries, including children. The drones, used for attacks and surveillance, have also caused displacements and mobility restrictions for civilians. Ombudsman Iris Marin warned that these attacks restrict access for humanitarian missions and complicate daily activities for affected populations.
