DSS arrests Faisal Maina, fugitive son of former pension reform task force chief

The Department of State Services (DSS) arrested Faisal Abdulrasheed Maina in Abuja’s Karsana area after he reportedly returned to Nigeria secretly, and handed him over to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). The son of former Pension Reform Task Team chairman Abdulrasheed Maina had been on the run since 2020 after leaving the country while facing money-laundering and conspiracy charges. Tried in absentia, he was sentenced to 14 years in prison by Justice Okon Abang in 2021. His transfer to the EFCC is expected to facilitate enforcement of the sentence.

The case expands an Italian investigation that had previously focused on National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir.
