Earthquake hits central Japan, injuring more than 20 people

A magnitude 5.7 earthquake struck western Shizuoka Prefecture in central Japan at 1:04am on Sunday, at a depth of about 40km. More than 20 people were injured in Aichi and Shizuoka prefectures, shop windows were shattered and books fell from shelves; some people fell on stairs while trying to evacuate. No tsunami warning was issued, but Japan’s meteorological agency urged people to prepare for strong aftershocks, particularly over the next two to three days. Some local train services were suspended and Shinkansen bullet trains slowed in affected areas.

CENTCOM also said it had disabled a commercial cargo vessel in the Gulf of Oman as part of the blockade.
