Eastern DRC: UN Security Council Reiterates Call for Immediate and Unconditional Withdrawal of Rwandan Forces and Cessation of Support to AFC/M23

The UN Security Council reiterated its call for Rwandan Defense Forces (RDF) to immediately and unconditionally withdraw from Congolese territory and cease support to the AFC/M23 rebellion, considered a key ally of the rebels. The statement was made following France's presidency of the Security Council in September 2026 during a briefing where Jérôme Bonnafont emphasized the need to adhere to Resolution 2773. The members also reaffirmed their support for MONUSCO's peacekeeping efforts in eastern DRC and expressed concern over the humanitarian impact of the ongoing conflict.
