Eastleigh Building Collapse: Seven Missing, 67 Workers Accounted For

A multi-storey building under construction collapsed Friday afternoon on 9th Street in Eastleigh, Kamukunji Sub-County, Nairobi. Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen said all 67 workers at the site had been accounted for: 66 escaped unharmed and one was hospitalized in stable condition. Seven people believed to have been operating inside the building, which had 11 ground-floor shops and an occupied basement despite reportedly lacking an occupation certificate, were missing as rescue teams searched the rubble. The Kenya Red Cross separately said 26 people previously reported missing had been traced, without clarifying whether they were among Murkomen’s seven.
