Ebola Bundibugyo: WHO acknowledges uncertainties about the effectiveness of the Ervebo vaccine and recommends its use only in research settings

The World Health Organization (WHO) has recommended against the routine use of the Ervebo vaccine for Bundibugyo virus, citing insufficient scientific data to prove its effectiveness in humans. WHO clarified that Ervebo is approved only for the Ebola virus (Zaire ebolavirus) and not for Bundibugyo. Some studies suggest possible cross-protection, but the results are inconclusive. WHO calls for controlled trials to assess the effectiveness of Ervebo in the context of the current outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
