Ebola cases surpass 8,000 as DRC struggles to control outbreak

The Democratic Republic of the Congo has recorded over 8,000 Ebola cases, including nearly 4,000 deaths, in its worst outbreak in history. The latest report from the public health institute states there are 8,067 cases and 3,901 deaths, with a fatality rate of 48.4%. Public mistrust and anger towards government policies hinder efforts to contain the outbreak, with a senior UDPS party member killed after raising awareness on radio in Butembo. Although cases have leveled off, WHO warns the outbreak is still not under control.
