Ebola in DR Congo: More than 10,000 cases recorded, with Ituri accounting for over 70% of infections

More than five months after the Ebola outbreak was declared in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the Health Ministry reported 10,060 confirmed cases and 4,887 deaths as of October 25. Ituri has recorded more than 7,200 cases and 3,370 deaths, accounting for over 70% of infections, while North Kivu has reported more than 2,300 cases. On October 25, health services recorded 96 new cases and 46 additional deaths; since May 15, the outbreak has affected 66 health zones across eight provinces. Authorities cite difficulties tracing contacts and transporting patients, including two women with suspected symptoms in Ituri who could not be taken to a treatment center because no ambulance was available.
