Ebola in DRC: UN strengthens border screening

Congolese authorities are strengthening health controls to contain the spread of the Ebola virus, with support from the International Organization for Migration deploying screening teams at borders and major transport routes. Since mid-May, the epidemic has resulted in over 3,600 deaths and approximately 7,500 infections, spreading across seven provinces, including Ituri, North Kivu, and Haut-Uélé. The United States announced an additional $267 million aid to fight the outbreak, bringing their total aid to $887 million, while the UN issued a call for an extra $1.1 billion to bolster the response.
