Ebola: New Suspected Cases in Nigeria, Doctor Dies in DR Congo, Saudi Restrictions Target Kenya

Nigeria has identified two more suspected Ebola cases in the country’s northeast; both people have been isolated and laboratory tests are underway, but the cases are not yet confirmed. DR Congo: 129 cholera cases and 14 deaths recorded in Mbandaka

At least 129 cholera cases, 14 deaths and 68 recoveries have been reported in the Wangata and Bolenge health zones of Mbandaka, according to a provisional tally released on October 30 by the Equateur provincial health division. Health officials suspect the arrival of three boats from Kinshasa contributed to the outbreak, and say about 100 of the roughly 800 passengers showed symptoms consistent with cholera. Mbandaka Mayor Yves Balo urged residents to follow preventive measures, including handwashing, treating or boiling drinking water, and disinfecting motorcycle taxis that transported patients.

A cure for Trump? Why Democratic doctors are running in the 2026 midterms

Democratic doctors and public health professionals are running in unusually large numbers in the 2026 US midterms, driven partly by opposition to Donald Trump’s policies, which they consider anti-scientific, and by anger over rising healthcare costs. The American College of Gastroenterology estimates that as many as 25 physicians could win congressional seats, a record. Candidates include paediatrician Richard Pan, running in California’s 6th congressional district; Abdul El-Sayed, in a close Michigan Senate race; and Annie Andrews, who has turned South Carolina’s Senate contest into a battleground. Epidemiologist Eric Feigl-Ding says the political participation is an effort to promote responsible healthcare policies and counter misinformation.
