Ebola: Plateau reactivates isolation centres and strengthens surveillance

Plateau State, Nigeria, has reactivated isolation centres, expanded public awareness campaigns and strengthened disease surveillance to prevent Ebola from spreading into the state. Health Commissioner Dr Nicholas Ba’amlong said the emergency preparedness team would assess safety measures at the airport and alert local government areas bordering neighbouring states. He urged residents to maintain good hygiene, avoid contact with the blood and body fluids of suspected cases, and report suspected infections promptly. Ten resolutions approved by the State Council on Health include creating a health trust fund, strengthening surveillance and establishing an emergency fund for public health threats.
