Ebola: Reps urge calm and compliance with health guidelines

Nigeria’s House of Representatives Committee on Infectious Diseases, chaired by Amobi Godwin Ogah, urged the public to stay calm and follow health guidelines amid a possible Ebola threat. The appeal followed reports of a confirmed case in a woman who arrived in Abuja from Uganda on October 20, 2026; authorities were reportedly tracing 44 contacts. The lawmakers called for stronger surveillance, screening at entry points, laboratory testing and contact tracing, and for outstanding funds to be released to health agencies. They urged Nigerians to rely on the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare and the NCDC for verified information, while coordinating preparedness with the WHO and other public health institutions.
