Ebola: vaccine candidate against Bundibugyo strain tested in Uganda

The first participants in a phase 1 clinical trial of a vaccine candidate against the Bundibugyo strain of Ebola received a dose on October 6 in Masaka, Uganda. The study is being conducted by the Medical Research Council, the Uganda Virus Research Institute and the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, in partnership with the University of Oxford. It aims to assess the vaccine’s safety and whether it triggers an immune response; no approved vaccine or effective specific treatment is currently available for this strain. Recruitment is expected to finish by November, and each participant will be followed for twelve months.
