Ebonyi Assembly Unanimously Approves State Police Bill

On Tuesday, all 24 members of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly unanimously approved a bill to establish state police services under a constitutional amendment sent by the National Assembly. The proposal would amend the 1999 Constitution to provide a legal framework for state police while retaining the Nigeria Police Force at the federal level. Speaker Moses Odunwa said the reform would strengthen security and improve access to criminal intelligence and the protection of lives and property. House Leader Kingsley Ikoro said state police would boost security personnel and grassroots crime-fighting; the assembly’s resolutions will be sent to the National Assembly.
