Ebonyi State lifts suspension on Ambertone after Ishiagu community buries two slain youths

The Ebonyi State Government has allowed mining operations to resume at Ambertone Logistics Limited’s Ihetutu site, operated with Zotmann Mining Limited, following consultations with bereaved families and community stakeholders. The suspension was imposed after Chibuike Elema, 18, and Obinna Gideon Akandu, 20, were shot dead on October 18, 2026, in an incident reportedly involving a military officer. The circumstances of the shooting remain unclear, and the companies say it took place outside their premises and was not authorised by them. Subsequent unrest in the community reportedly damaged company vehicles, equipment and offices.
