ECOMOG: Defence Minister pledges to honour Nigerian troops killed in Liberia and Sierra Leone

Nigeria’s Defence Minister, General Christopher Musa, assured ECOMOG veterans that troops who died in peacekeeping operations in Liberia and Sierra Leone would not be forgotten. Meeting a delegation led by retired Major General Ohifeme Ejimai in Abuja, Musa pledged to complete efforts to document ECOMOG records, casualties and historical assets. Ejimai briefed the minister on veterans’ initiatives and welfare and called for an annual remembrance day for the hundreds of Nigerian troops killed in the operations. Established by ECOWAS in 1990, ECOMOG helped restore constitutional order and stabilise Liberia and Sierra Leone.
