Edo reopens schools shut over kidnap threats, cites improved security

The Edo State government has approved the reopening of schools in Akoko-Edo LGA, which were earlier shut due to kidnap threats. The decision came after a security review by relevant agencies. Enhanced security measures have been implemented, and schools will resume on June 15, 2026, according to a circular from the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Enodolomwanyi Otamere.
