Edo State Government and NLC Reach Peace Deal as Labour Moves to Restore Electricity

The Edo State Government agreed to recognise the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) caretaker committee as the union’s lawful representative and to remit check-off dues through the proper channels. The agreement was reached at a meeting brokered by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation on October 23, 2026, attended by the governor, NLC President Joe Ajaero and Senator Adams Oshiomhole, among others. The NLC secretariat in Edo is to reopen immediately, while the National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE) has undertaken to restore power to the state, which has been without electricity since Monday. The governor also requested a meeting with the caretaker committee to consolidate the peace deal.
