Édouard Balladur, last Prime Minister of François Mitterrand, passes away at 97

Édouard Balladur passed away on August 31, 2026, in Paris at the age of 97. He was the last Prime Minister under François Mitterrand, serving from March 1993 to May 1995. His political career was marked by his closeness to Jacques Chirac and the Karachi affair, for which he was acquitted in 2021. Balladur retired from political life in 2006 after more than fifty years of service.
