Egypt delays decision on possible military support for Saudi Arabia

Egypt’s parliament has postponed until Monday, October 26, the resumption of debate on possible military intervention in support of Saudi Arabia, and has not yet decided on the authorization requested by President Abdel Fattah al-Sissi. The legislature has been meeting in an extraordinary session since Sunday as Iran-backed Houthi rebels step up attacks on the kingdom. Targets have included state oil giant Aramco and Riyadh’s international airport; an attack in the Saudi capital on October 10 killed 13 people. Al-Sissi said on Saturday that it was “inconceivable” for Egypt to remain a spectator while Saudi Arabia’s security was threatened.
