Egypt: Family of Shaimaa al-Sabbagh Compensated More Than Ten Years After Her Death

Egypt has compensated the family of activist Shaimaa al-Sabbagh with 300,000 Egyptian pounds, approximately $6,000, more than ten years after her death. She was shot by police on January 24, 2015, during a commemorative rally for protesters killed in the 2011 revolution. Her family pursued a lengthy legal battle against the Ministry of Interior, which was found responsible by a court in 2023. This compensation is seen as a symbolic acknowledgment of that responsibility.
