Every year, the 'Black Cloud' season in Cairo, from September to December, leads to severe air pollution due to the burning of rice stubble and solid waste. In 2017, approximately 12,600 premature deaths in Egypt were attributed to PM2.5 exposure. In response, Egyptian authorities, with support from the World Bank, have implemented an action plan to combat air pollution, allowing for preventive measures before the situation reaches crisis levels.
