Eight Nigerian Soldiers Killed as Army Vehicle Hits Landmine

Eight Nigerian soldiers were killed on Saturday when their patrol vehicle struck a landmine in Kinuba village, in Borno State near the Cameroon border. Troops were inspecting anti-jihadist militia members clearing roadside thickets, 25 kilometres from Gamboru; one militia member was injured by shrapnel. Military sources blamed the attack on Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) and said the explosive was detonated remotely. The attack came amid a rise in jihadist violence over the past two years and days after an assault that killed 15 soldiers and five militia members.
