El Niño 'supersized' as countries race to prepare for extreme weather, UN warns

The UN warned that the world has entered a 'danger zone of extreme weather' due to El Niño, which could be the strongest in over 70 years and last until February 2027. Sea surface temperatures in the central and eastern tropical Pacific have recently risen over 2°C above average, with forecasts suggesting they could approach 4°C above average. WMO Secretary-General Celeste Saulo stated that El Niño has the potential to deliver a massive blow to communities and economies worldwide.
