El Salvador Imposes Visa Restrictions on Kenya and 7 Other African Countries

El Salvador barred nationals of eight African countries—Kenya, Angola, Burundi, the Central African Republic, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Ethiopia, Rwanda and Uganda—citing concerns about Ebola. The restriction also applies to people who have travelled through those countries. CNN journalist Larry Madowo said his application for a special entry permit was denied because he is Kenyan, prompting him to abandon plans to volunteer in El Salvador. Kenya confirmed its ninth Ebola case on October 21, 2026.
