El Salvador pledges more than 2,000 soldiers as Haiti delays elections

El Salvador plans to send more than 2,000 soldiers to Haiti to search for four missing Salvadoran aviation technicians and fight armed gangs. The four disappeared on October 18 when armed men ambushed their vehicle in Croix-des-Bouquets while they were serving with an international mission supporting Haitian police. President Nayib Bukele and Haitian Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé agreed to strengthen cooperation on rescue efforts and security operations.

Tshisekedi reaffirmed his preference for diplomatic efforts through the Washington and Doha processes, alongside African Union mediation, and called for verifiable implementation of diplomatic progress. He also listed energy, infrastructure, local mineral processing, food security and fertilizer as DRC economic priorities.

Bolsonaro left Brazil after failing to surrender his passports as ordered by the Supreme Court in a money-laundering investigation; he has not been charged and denies wrongdoing. Both campaigns had requested extended voting hours, the electoral authority said the vote was conducted normally, and about 34,000 people voted during the extension.
