Election in Philippines’ Bangsamoro region ends in hung parliament

The first parliamentary elections in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in the Philippines resulted in a hung parliament, with no party securing a majority. According to unofficial results, the two rival parties emerging from the Moro Islamic Liberation Front each received over 30% of the votes, failing to reach the 41 seats needed in the 80-member parliament. Abdulraof Macacua, leader of the Bangsamoro Federalist Party, acknowledged that coalition-building with other parties is unavoidable following the vote.
