Electoral reform: Expert Fofana explains the three-part structure designed to secure elections

Following the overhaul of Côte d’Ivoire’s electoral system presented by Prime Minister Robert Beugré Mambé on June 22, 2026, Inspector General Siaka Fofana has defended a mechanism that divides responsibilities among three bodies. One would supervise and oversee the process, a second would handle technical and operational organization, and a third would tally the votes. Magistrates and candidates’ representatives would tally the votes; Fofana says separating these functions would strengthen transparency and public confidence.
