Electricity: Installed capacity increases by 50% in five years, but remains 1,220 MW short of target

The installed electricity production capacity in Cameroon increased by 50.4%, rising from 1,516 MW in 2020 to 2,280 MW by the end of 2025. Despite this growth, the country is still 1,220 MW short of the government's interim target of 3,500 MW. This increase is mainly attributed to new hydroelectric infrastructure, including the Nachtigal plant with a capacity of 420 MW, which was commissioned in March 2025.
