Elif Eralp: A leftist leader with Turkish roots dubbed ‘Germany’s Mamdani’

Elif Eralp, candidate of The Left party (Die Linke), won the Berlin state elections, positioning her to potentially become the city's next mayor. Born in Munich to Turkish socialist parents, she could be the first party candidate to lead Berlin since German reunification in 1990, as well as the first mayor of Turkish descent and the first woman of color to hold the office. Her campaign promises include affordable housing and increased political inclusion for immigrants and refugees.
