Erosion Threatens Tubondo School Complex in Mbuji-Mayi and Disrupts Classes

The Tubondo school complex, which includes the Catholic schools Tubondo and Saint-Léonard in Mbuji-Mayi (Kasaï-Oriental), is threatened by the expansion of ravines caused by heavy rains and strong winds. At least 4 classrooms are no longer usable, one building has been swallowed by erosion, and other structures remain at risk. The situation has worsened since the start of the school year, forcing the administration to halt classes during rainfalls to prevent damage, disrupting normal school activities. Parents and school officials are calling for authorities to intervene to stop the advancing ravines and protect the remaining infrastructure.

The situation risks triggering a worldwide food crisis if no resolution is achieved promptly.
