Ethiopia accuses Sudan, Egypt of backing Tigray rebels as fighting rages

Ethiopia’s army commander accused Sudan and Egypt of supporting armed groups fighting its forces in the north after heavy clashes resumed between the Tigray People's Liberation Front (TPLF) and the federal government. He claimed these forces are organized and allied to serve external interests and would not make gains without backing, support, and supplies from Sudan, Egypt, and other external powers. Sudan denied the allegations, calling them baseless, and countered by accusing the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) of receiving support from within Ethiopia, including training, supplies, and drone-related military activities. The renewed fighting has raised fears of a return to the 2020-2022 civil war, which caused approximately 600,000 deaths, and a drone strike hit the headquarters of Tigrai TV in Mekelle, the Tigray capital.
