Ethiopia blames regional rivals as risk of conflict spillover rises

Ethiopia has accused Eritrea, Sudan, and Egypt of backing armed opposition groups, raising fears of regional conflict spillover. Army Chief Birhanu Jula blamed these countries, especially Eritrea, for linking external powers with internal rebel groups. Egypt, Sudan, and Eritrea denied the accusations, emphasizing respect for sovereignty and non-interference. Tensions are further strained by longstanding disputes, including Ethiopia's support for the Rapid Support Forces in Sudan and conflicts over the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD).
