Ethiopia: Federal Forces Capture Alamata from Tigrayan Rebels

Ethiopian federal forces took control of Alamata in southern Tigray on September 23 after intense fighting, marking the first major victory in the region since hostilities resumed. The city, located about fifteen kilometers inside Tigray on the route to Mekele, was claimed by the Tigray Peace Forces, allied with the federal government. Clashes are now between federal forces and the TPLF, which controls the region, with the military advancing towards Mekele. Fighting also occurred in Amhara and Afar, with TPLF capturing Erebti in Afar, indicating an escalation of the conflict.
