Ethiopian forces expand control in Tigray as militia claims Eritrean losses

Ethiopian forces and allied fighters say they have expanded their control in Tigray and entered the historic city of Aksum. The pro-government Tigray Peace Force claims Eritrean troops suffered heavy casualties and retreated towards the border, but Eritrea’s Information Minister Yemane Gebremeskel rejected the claims, and the reported losses could not be independently verified. ACLED documented Ethiopian government forces and TPF fighters entering Aksum, as well as Eritrean troops withdrawing through Zalambessa. Fighting has stopped in Zalambessa, but residents have been without power or water for a week amid fears of a confrontation between the neighbouring countries.
