EU: Five countries want to create 'return centers' outside Europe

Five countries in the European Union, namely Denmark, Germany, Austria, Greece, and the Netherlands, aim to establish 'return centers' for rejected asylum seekers in countries outside the EU. They hope to reach an agreement with a partner state by early 2027, although the host country has not yet been identified, with Uganda and Rwanda mentioned as possible options. Danish Immigration Minister Morten Bødskov stated that the European legal framework now allows progress on this project.
