European diplomats attacked by Israeli settlers in West Bank

Masked Israeli settlers attacked a delegation of European diplomats in the Christian village of Taybeh, near Ramallah, as the envoys assessed conditions after repeated attacks on Palestinians harvesting olives. Belgium said a car from its consulate had a window smashed and a French mayor was assaulted. Belgian Foreign Minister Maxime Prevot called for those responsible to face justice and urged EU sanctions; Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar and the Israeli military also condemned the violence. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office cast doubt on the account and suggested it was part of a coordinated campaign to smear Israel.
