Evasion of 31 inmates at Inongo Central Prison after military guards abandon their posts

A mass escape occurred during the night of September 23-24 at Inongo Central Prison in Mai-Ndombe, with 31 inmates escaping after military guards abandoned their posts unexpectedly. The interim prison director, Paul Pius Biako, stated that the military guards left on orders from their captain due to unpaid detachment bonuses promised by the provincial governor. Authorities have launched search operations to locate the fugitives and reintegrate them into the prison system.
