Nepali guide Dawa Sherpa, 57, survived six days on Everest by chewing ice and eating a few chocolates found in his pocket after his oxygen ran out. He fell into a crevasse and was trapped for two and a half days until an avalanche sent snow that allowed him to climb out. He was spotted by a cleanup team sliding toward Base Camp and rescued. He is hospitalized in Kathmandu with dehydration, frostbite, and a fractured bone.
