Evictions in Gesco: Two Years Later, Victims Still Demand Compensation

Two years after evictions in the Gesco neighborhood of Yopougon, the Collective of Victims of the Éden, Pays-Bas, and other sub-districts expressed discontent at a press conference on June 23, 2026. Rose Koné, a collective member, denounced the lack of response from the state, the Autonomous District of Abidjan, the Yopougon municipality, and the Ministry of National Solidarity. The demolitions in early 2024 destroyed over 200 concessions, a school serving more than 1,000 students, and caused three deaths. A one-time aid of 250,000 FCFA given to some families is deemed insufficient compared to the loss of real estate assets worth millions.
