Ex-FBI chief James Comey faces federal charges for third time

Federal prosecutors have moved to charge former FBI Director James Comey with disclosing national defence information. Court papers say the two counts stem from an alleged disclosure to the New York Times in October 2016; Comey denies wrongdoing and calls the charges an “appalling abuse.” His lawyer, Patrick Fitzgerald, says two prosecution teams previously concluded that no charges should be brought, and Comey’s legal team has filed a motion to dismiss. Former federal prosecutor Glenn Kirschner says the 10-year statute of limitations may have expired, as this marks the Trump administration’s third attempt to prosecute Comey.
