A team from the Archaeological Legacy Institute (ALI) and Purdue University is heading to Nikumaroro Island in the Pacific Ocean to investigate what they believe could be the wreckage of Amelia Earhart's plane. They aim to find the Taraia Object, first spotted in 2020 satellite imagery, which may be her Electra aircraft that disappeared in 1937 during a global circumnavigation attempt. The expedition, aboard the Marin Mainiku vessel, is expected to arrive by Monday after navigating through a narrow reef passage created in 1963. Finding Earhart's aircraft would be a historic breakthrough.
