Export truckers allege N50,000 charges per container at Tin Can port

Ridwan Bello, chairman of the Association of Container Truck Owners of Nigeria (ACTOAN), says truckers moving export containers through Lagos’s Tin Can Island Port face charges of up to N50,000 per container. He cites an alleged N15,000 payment to facilitate each container’s drop-off and fees of up to N10,000 to unload export containers at some terminals, alongside other charges. Bello accuses the Nigerian Ports Authority and other agencies of hindering port access despite the electronic call-up system, and asks why truckers must meet a manifest requirement. Nigeria’s non-oil exports reportedly reached $6.1 billion in 2025, up from $5.46 billion in 2024.
