Exporters face compliance burden on new EU packaging rules

Kenyan exporters to the European Union must comply with new rules banning the importation of food products packaged with harmful chemicals, including PFAS, starting August 12, 2026. They will need to switch to PFAS-free packaging and obtain certifications for their packaging materials. The new regulations also set reuse targets and bans on certain single-use formats.
