Extraordinary Session at the Assembly: What Will Change for the ECOWAS Biometric Identity Card

The President of the National Assembly, Ousmane Sonko, convened an extraordinary session for September 18, 2026, to discuss Bill No. 21/2026, which aims to reform the ECOWAS biometric identity card. This reform modifies Law No. 2016-09 of March 14, 2016, introducing technological improvements and enhancing the security of personal data. The card, mandatory for citizens aged at least fifteen, needs to be renewed as the first generations are nearing expiration. Other texts will also be examined during this session, including proposals on the Petroleum Code and health in prison environments.
