Infantino Made to Wait on Asian Support as AFC President Remains Coy

Asian Football Confederation (AFC) President Sheikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa gave no indication whether the body’s 47 members would support Gianni Infantino’s bid for a fourth FIFA term in the March election. Asian votes could prove decisive as Infantino faces strong opposition in Europe and has firm backing in Africa. Sheikh Salman said the AFC was “not against anyone and we’re not in favour of anyone,” after the confederation had joined other governing bodies in accusing Infantino of a “fundamental breach of trust.” Asia is divided: Qatar supports the FIFA president, while Jordan has declared its opposition.

Alphadjo Cisse: Which African national team could AC Milan’s new rising star play for?

Born in Treviso in 2006 to parents of Guinean origin, Alphadjo Cisse scored a hat-trick in 49 minutes during AC Milan’s 4-0 win over Salzburg on October 15. At 19, the attacking midfielder ended Milan’s 24-year wait for a hat-trick in European competition, a feat last achieved by Filippo Inzaghi in 2002. After developing at Hellas Verona, he scored 16 goals in the Italian youth league in 2023-24 and recorded six goals and an assist in 22 Serie B appearances for Catanzaro. His Guinean roots could make an African national team an option, but the article says he apparently has no ties to Senegal.
