Congolese singer Fally Ipupa was knighted in the National Order of the Leopard by President Félix Tshisekedi, one of DR Congo's highest honours awarded only to distinguished public figures. The recognition was announced on state TV by a government spokeswoman, who praised his role in promoting Congolese rumba and culture. Ipupa, 48, said he felt 'immense pride' and dedicated the award to the Congolese people. He recently became the first African artist to top the French album charts with XX and sold out the Stade de France for two consecutive nights.
