Family asks IGP for thorough investigation into disappearance of brother’s body

The Okammelu family has asked Nigeria’s Inspector General of Police (IGP) to order a supplementary investigation into the disappearance of their late brother’s body. In a July 6, 2026 letter, lawyer Joseph Ofor, representing Chief Osita Okammelu, challenged the IGP-IRT report, citing omissions, inconsistencies and investigative gaps. The family says the report leaves questions about the body’s chain of custody, the roles of other suspects and institutional responsibility unresolved, while recommending prosecution of only one person. It is seeking a comprehensive investigation to establish all potential criminal responsibility and ensure justice.
