Farmers, herders raise alarm over fresh conflict escalation in Kano as harvest season nears - Daily Post Nigeria

The Chairman of Nigeria's All Farmers Association (AFAN) in Kano State, Abdullahi Ali Maibiredi, raised concerns about escalating farmer-herder clashes as the harvest season approaches, citing ongoing conflicts that have caused property loss and deaths over the years. He urged authorities to intervene and find lasting solutions before the situation worsens. Additionally, MACBAN Kano Chairman Abdullahi Bakoji warned that the expected return of transhumant herders from Niger during ongoing harvests, due to water shortages in Niger, could heighten tensions. He also pointed out issues like illegal occupation of cattle routes and grazing areas as contributing factors to the conflict.
